Dave Holder is an artist based in Melbourne, Australia who builds all of his work out of LEGO. We spent 5 minutes with him to chat bricks.
What sparked your interest in LEGO?
My interest in LEGO was sparked by seeing a really cool LEGO set on sale at a toy store and thinking how fun it would be to build. This was as an adult at about 25 years old.
Biggest achievements with LEGO building?
My biggest achievement was building the world’s largest LEGO Star Wars Millennium Falcon. It was 5 metres long and made from 250,000 bricks. I built it with Lewis Meeny, another LEGO builder on Instagram.
How long some of the Pokemon LEGO statues took you to build?
Pokemon take me about 20 hours each to build. That includes about 4-5 hours of planning and design before then building them.
Any competitions you’ve won?
I won a competition to become the master model builder at LEGOLAND Melbourne. It was the first LEGOLAND in the southern hemisphere, and was a two day building competition against 100 other hopefuls to become Australia’s first ever LEGOLAND master builder.
What we can expect to see from you next?
My primary focus for now is going to be building more Pokemon. With hundreds of Pokemon, there are so many options for things to build, each with their own unique challenges.
