Montana DeVane is a 28 year old musician based in Las Vegas, who has been producing and releasing music since 2005. Her sound is smooth and vibrant – a blend of Afrobeat and RnB with elements of HipHop thrown into the mix. We recently spoke to her about her inspiration to write new single Spread Love (ft. TinyM), which is set to release on June 12th.
Hey Montana! We’d like to start off by asking you to describe yourself in 3 words.
Hey SCC! I would describe myself as Ambitious, Determined, Loyal.
What are you earliest memories of music?
My earliest memories of writing music are from when I was maybe 8 or 9. I would always just write a line and then ball up the whole piece of paper and start over haha. My mom hated that I used to trash my room with paper balls everywhere, but since then I knew I was going to write music and become an artist of integrity and love.
Who would be your dream artist to collaborate with?
Missy Elliot. She is my all time favourite artist and her creativity and lyricism still amazes me.
Where do your inspirations come from when writing your music?
My inspirations come from life, my journey, and my personal experiences. I write music according to how I feel at that time.
If you weren’t a musician, what would you be doing?
If I wasn’t doing music I would definitely be in the Information Technology career field.
Who’s your favourite person to stalk on Instagram?
It has to be Stefflon Don. I love her!
How have you found being creative in quarantine?
During quarantine I actually recorded my new single Spread Love as well as my upcoming EP Black Sunflower. I was really able to use the time to be free and creative in a way I wouldn’t if I was at work 8 hours a day.

Tell us about your upcoming single and the inspiration behind it.
My upcoming single Spread Love came about after learning about the killing of Ahmaud Arbery. I just feel like it is time to spread more love and have less judgement against others, no matter their colour. We all need some light and positive words and energy. Don’t be the judge or take matters into your hands, but let those who are in the position of authority do their job.
If you could give some advice to younger musicians, what would it be?
Do what you do with purpose. Say what you say with purpose. Be you on purpose. No excuses.
This is awesome
