RAYMOND is a DJ from London, master of mashups and resident DJ for Be at One. We caught up with him about how he started out, his inspirations and how he is coping with lockdown.
Tell us about yourself and what you do in 100 words or less.
I’m RAYMOND, a DJ and Music Editor. I’m known across the UK for my Music Mashups, which have been featured on the likes of Capital Xtra. I love what I do, and music is my life.
How did you get in to DJing?
I got into DJing from working at Apple and displaying DJ products, and from previously learning how to DJ in college. It started as a hobby but as I got more and more gigs I decided to make it my career!
You’re a resident DJ for Be at One which is a pretty big deal! How did that come about?
It came from joining my current agency JW DJ Agency, I started doing smaller venues for a few months and then they asked me to start playing the Be At One venues. I was super nervous as the clientele is so diverse. But after the very first gig, I hit the ground running, and I’m now known around all the Be At Ones in London!
Who do you take inspiration from?
I take inspiration from legendary DJ’s like Jazzy Jeff, DJ Premier, DJ EZ and many more. But I take a lot of inspiration from myself surprisingly.
If you weren’t a DJ, what would you be doing?
I would like to think I would’ve been a successful long distance runner, as I was very good for my age at school.
If you knew you were playing your last ever set, what tracks would we be sure to hear?
That’s a super difficult question! I don’t know to be honest. I would probably play for the crowd at the time, that’s what DJing is about.
How are you keeping busy during lockdown?
I have been getting creative, creating videos, a lot of baking and exercise. And enjoying going for random walks with my dog!
What’s coming next for RAYMOND?
What’s coming next is anything that I wanna take on. I constantly move forward and have no idea what’s coming up. But I look forward to it!
